Bulletproof Wallets (jev)©

So this was an album cover I did for Ghostface Killah's third album Bulletproof Wallets maybe six or seven years ago. If you know Ghost, you know his personality and rap style is one of style, charm and luxury. So going into this, it had to be fly, just look at the official album cover, I knew I couldn't half step on this one and make any BS.

Now what you see as the final version here was nothing close to the other versions I did. I initially wanted to keep the chrome elements from his first two album covers and his name on this one and do a steel wallet, I definitely wanted to use a wallet but for whatever reason, I was doing too much with it, I had bullet scuff marks and was going down the heavy photoshop route and had to start over. I use photoshop only when I have to for work and some projects, but that's not my go-to art style choice. For the final look that I needed, it was the correct decision this time, I came up with this luxury GFK "Louis Vuitton" print, based on wallets they already sold but using Wu and Ghost elements in place of theirs, it worked out perfectly and if you're a fan of GFK you'll recognise them. I did all this by hand then scan and redrew it in Illustrator.

My GFK "Louis Vuitton" print also morphed into another project that I'll reveal at some point. When I do tho, the bootleg nature of the internet is gonna take it and run wild with it, you can count on that. I decided to post this up today because I read this article from the still crew on Twitter, I commented on it and mentioned I had an unpublished version of it and they reached out. You click on the link to read their article here:

New Slaves (jev)©

“The land of the Free and home for the brave”?

Obama was supposed to be the light, the dawn of a New America... Then November 8, 2016 happened. It's crazy the amount of things that has happened since then.

Looking at American news for the last two years it is clear that not too many white Americans want to live with or around other people that doesn't look like them.
Whenever you have leadership that refuse to say or do the right thing, it is never in the best interest of the masses. "White Nationalism" has become the new face for racism and hate towards anyone not them.

Time and time again, we've seen non melanated people when upset, tell them to leave, or go back to whichever country they "came from" even if they and or their ancestors were born in the US. It's an inbreed notion that only certain people should be there, and if you must be there, you should act like them or go away. Some people don't like diversity, if you don't look like them or speak like them, its a problem and you're making them feel uncomfortable. For a country that stole, bought and went to war to make their intended states united, it made sure not everyone was welcome to it.

Black people have been made, in particular to feel that the freedoms that should be had by all, that they should be grateful to even be alive.

I'll save some ranting for another post about melanated folks having the "law enforcement" called on for everyday living.

*(If i get around to doing the artwork soon)

New westindi logo (jev)©

So this is the new logo I've been wanting to change to for a very long time now. With the new look, it's a bit more Caribbean now, a lot fresher and flat.

It's also a play on those 80's beach tees I used to have growing up and being from the islands those type of designs were/are always in style.

This will be my standalone logo sig for profile pics. When you look at it, it's a bit hard to see exactly what it is but that's ok. That's how I wanted it. It's the beach house window shutter view.
For the W I used three of them to give me the shape I was going for, I wanted it to look like a beach hut or a lifeguard's tower. This meant having to go through a ton of typefaces until I found the one that would work best.

I also wanted it to flip, so that you would always see the W with any three colours I chose.

And this last one is all the elements together. Both the Colour and Black & White.

my dog (jev)©

Dogs have opinions on design matters too. Sometimes, maybe.

And sometimes a dog is just a dog. Why all the Comic Sans hate?

BIG fish & small fries (jev)©

Let me preface this with saying that I have no problem with either the State of Emergency or curfew,
as neither of them affect me really. I work my usual work hours and I’m at home during the “ lock down” hours.

Now here’s where I’ll contradict myself by saying that the only problems that I’m having with all of this is the manner in which it’s being dealt with.

(1) The Attorney General is a moron. He in his wisdom, at every turn, thinks he has to clarify his clarification of a clarification of someone else or himself.

(2) The notion that the only people that the “lock down” is affecting is the criminals [insert laugh here]
I guess that there are more criminals than there are law abiding citizens (looking at you here Minister of Justice).

(3) Millions, Thousands & Hundreds of dollars ARE being lost due the “lock down”. Everybody is going to lose directly or indirectly.

(4) Hotspot & Big Fish *sigh* The two key words being used and over used for about a week now with no end in sight.
One I love and the other, not so much. People get robbed and shot all over the place so to me there’s no "hotspot".
As for the Big Fish... I love it, it gave me the inspiration for the artwork. In fact, I’ll be using that term often, over using it actually.
So... for something that started out as a joke between me and a co-worker turned into artwork and a rant.
*Steps off soapbox*
